"Peptides" have become one of the most searched-for terms in longevity and performance circles in Singapore. This guide explains, in plain terms, what they are and why caution matters. It is educational only and names no specific compounds. Helix Privé does not provide, prescribe, supply, arrange or advertise peptide treatments.
What Peptides Are
Peptides are short chains of amino acids — the building blocks of proteins. The body makes and uses many of them naturally as signalling molecules. That biological role is why they attract interest for things like metabolism, recovery and tissue repair.
The term is broad, though. It covers everything from well-established, approved medicines prescribed for specific conditions, to a grey market of products sold online with little oversight. Lumping all of these together under "peptide therapy" is misleading.
The Critical Point: Many Are Prescription-Only or Unapproved
A key fact that marketing often glosses over: many of the peptides promoted for longevity, muscle or recovery are either prescription-only medicines or are not approved for human therapeutic use at all. Several are sold labelled "for research use only" — which is not the same as being safe or approved for people.
This matters for safety and for the law. In Singapore, medicines and health products are regulated by the Health Sciences Authority, and prescription-only medicines cannot be advertised or supplied to the public outside the proper channels.
Quality and Safety Concerns
Grey-market peptides carry real risks. Products bought online can be inconsistent in purity, dose or sterility, and self-administration without medical supervision removes the monitoring that catches problems early.
Even where a peptide is a legitimate, approved medicine, it is prescribed for defined indications, with dosing and follow-up decided by a doctor — not something to source and self-experiment with.
What the Evidence Generally Shows
For the longevity and performance uses most people are curious about, the human evidence is usually early or limited, and far less settled than enthusiastic marketing suggests. Promising laboratory signals are common; large, well-controlled human trials proving meaningful long-term benefit are much rarer.
The honest summary: an interesting area of science, but not a proven shortcut, and not one to navigate without qualified medical input.
If peptides are genuinely relevant to a medical need, that is a conversation for an appropriately licensed physician who can weigh the evidence, legality and safety for your situation. For a broader perspective, see our look at peptides and NAD+: hype versus evidence.
